Starlink prices and discounts: plans, kit costs and referral rewards

Starlink’s monthly fee is only the starting point. The real cost combines your local service plan, the kit or rental charge, shipping, any activation or demand-related fees and electricity. A referral reward can improve the deal, but its current form and eligibility must be checked for the country where you activate the service. This guide brings those pieces together so that you can compare the amount due today with the cost of keeping Starlink for 12 or 24 months.

The official plan pages checked on 16 October 2026 advertise Residential service from US$55 in the United States, £40 in the United Kingdom, CA$75 in Canada and A$75 in Australia. These are different local offers, not converted versions of one global price. The lower-speed Residential plans are restricted to selected areas. Choose your country below to see the matching prices and open Starlink with our referral link.

Choose your country: plans, currency and the right offer

The country of your service address determines the relevant market. Reading an English article does not make your order a US order, and choosing another country’s currency is not a way to obtain that country’s price. The address check determines which plans and kit options are actually available. Advertised prices are a useful comparison point; the itemised order summary is the basis for your purchase.

Check address and offersOfficial plans

The map uses the same country-level availability snapshot as our wider Starlink guide, dated 15 October 2026. Availability in a country does not confirm capacity at every address, a specific hardware offer or referral eligibility. The country selection changes the offer links; the fixed source links in the comparison table continue to point to the country named in their row.

Check address and offers

Availability is a country-level snapshot, not confirmation for your exact address. A launch or availability status does not confirm a particular tariff, kit or referral benefit.

Residential and Roam: what the monthly price includes

Residential is the starting point for a fixed home connection. The 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps tiers cap download speed at those respective levels, while Max uses the maximum available speeds and the highest Residential priority described by Starlink. Unlimited data does not mean guaranteed speed: congestion, obstructions and installation conditions still affect performance. Max is therefore a service tier, not a promise that every address will continuously reach a particular number.

Roam is the mobile alternative for travel and changing locations. The checked markets do not all have the same data tiers: the US and Canadian pages also list 300 GB, while the UK and Australian pages list 100 GB and Unlimited. Limited-data plans continue at lower speed after the high-speed allowance is used. In-motion use, international trips, coastal coverage and the selected kit remain subject to the local plan rules.

Plan Monthly service Use and limits
Residential 100 Mbps US$55 / month Fixed-address service; 100 / 200 Mbps download caps, selected areas. Max: maximum available speeds; no guaranteed speed.
Residential 200 Mbps US$85 / month Fixed-address service; 100 / 200 Mbps download caps, selected areas. Max: maximum available speeds; no guaranteed speed.
Residential Max US$130 / month Fixed-address service; 100 / 200 Mbps download caps, selected areas. Max: maximum available speeds; no guaranteed speed.
Roam 100 GB US$55 / month Portable service subject to local coverage, data allowances and usage conditions.
Roam 300 GB US$80 / month Portable service subject to local coverage, data allowances and usage conditions.
Roam Unlimited US$175 / month Portable service subject to local coverage, data allowances and usage conditions.

Before paying more for speed, consider the bottleneck you are trying to remove. A household with ordinary streaming and video calls has different needs from a group that regularly uploads large projects. A higher service tier does not remove a tree from the antenna’s view or correct weak indoor Wi-Fi. Our Mini X review and alignment guide help separate service choice from installation problems.

Kit price, rental and “no upfront cost” offers

The kit is a separate part of the calculation. Buying usually means a higher initial payment; rental can reduce the starting cost but add a recurring charge and a return obligation. An offer with no upfront hardware payment does not by itself establish that you own the equipment or that all installation costs disappear. Check whether it is a rental arrangement, a promotion with conditions or another local purchase option.

Our own September 2026 Mini X order provides a useful documented example: the kit was €199 plus €19 shipping, or €218 before service. This is the dated purchase example from our test, not a current kit quote for another country. The box contained the Starlink Mini terminal, a separate Router Mini, their power supplies, a DC cable, a pipe adapter and documentation. Starlink Mini names the terminal; Router Mini is the separate networking device.

Check the contents of the exact offer you select before adding accessories. An extra mesh router is useful only if you actually need additional Wi-Fi coverage; it should not be added merely because the product name resembles a component already included. Likewise, a kit price says little about the mounting hardware needed on your roof, wall or pole. Our hardware comparison and installation guide cover those choices.

Activation, shipping and other starting costs

A clear quote separates the recurring plan from one-off charges. Keep a copy of the order summary and check each item against the offer you intended to select. If a line is not shown on a public landing page, that is not evidence that it will be zero at every address.

Cost item What to check
Kit purchase or rental Check the exact kit, payment type and ownership or return terms.
Shipping and handling Use the amount in your order summary.
Activation or location-related charges Add any charge shown for your chosen service address.
Mounts, cables and installation Include only the equipment and work your installation needs.
Taxes and duties Check what is included in the local quote.

The cheapest advertised monthly rate is not necessarily the cheapest first-year setup. A lower initial kit payment can come with rental costs, while a higher purchase payment may be attractive over a longer ownership period. The useful comparison is the total over your expected use, with the same service level, accessories and assumptions on both sides.

Free month, discount or referral reward: what applies now?

The live referral pages checked for this guide now advertise cash or service credit in selected areas, with rewards varying by region. That is different from treating one free month as a universal entitlement. Older help snippets and earlier promotions still explain why people search for “Starlink free month”, but they do not establish the benefit offered to a new order today. Follow the current local referral information and the amount confirmed for the eligible order.

Check the actual benefit before counting the saving

Use our referral link, select the country of activation and check the current promotion. A cash reward, invoice credit and free service month have different effects on your bill. No reward is automatically subtracted in the calculator below.

Check my local price and offer

The current programme terms require the relevant eligibility conditions and a qualifying subscription period. They generally require the referrer and new subscriber to have service addresses in the same country, with cross-border exceptions at SpaceX’s discretion. Changing the country path in a link does not itself confirm an exception or an approved reward.

Our links retain the same referral identifier when you choose a country. If Starlink confirms a qualifying benefit, follow its stated timing and check the account’s billing or referrals section. Cash paid after qualification is not automatically a reduction on the first invoice. A service credit should be counted when its value and applicability are confirmed, rather than assumed to equal your selected monthly fee.

  1. Start with the referral link: select the correct local offer before ordering.
  2. Check the customer and plan conditions: use the current programme information for that market.
  3. Read the payment summary: identify what is payable now and what may arrive later.
  4. Activate and meet the stated conditions: retain the order confirmation and applicable promotion.
  5. Verify the reward: use Starlink’s confirmation and account record, not a search snippet.

Contract length, cancellation, Standby and returns

The checked plan pages advertise a 30-day trial. That is a period for evaluating the service under the applicable terms, not a promise that every shipping charge, accessory or later cost is refundable in every market. Read the local return process and the deadline before installing equipment in a way that makes it difficult to return. Keep the packaging and record the condition of a rental kit.

Check the actual commitment attached to your offer. A standard flexible subscription and a hardware promotion can have different conditions. Look at the next billing date and the cancellation process in the account before you assume that stopping use stops payment. An unused connection can still be an active subscription.

Roam pages describe pausing through Standby Mode for a small recurring fee. Treat that as another paid service state, rather than automatically assuming a free pause. Availability, hardware eligibility and the ability to return to a previous plan should be checked for your account. If you are comparing seasonal use, include both active months and any Standby charges in the annual budget.

The 12- and 24-month cost: calculate the whole bill

The following figures show recurring service only, at the currently advertised price for the selected country. They exclude kit, rental, installation, electricity and unconfirmed rewards. This baseline is deliberate: it lets you add your own quote without presenting an uncertain bonus as money already saved.

Service only: 12 / 24 months · Residential 100 MbpsUS$660 / US$1,320

Equipment, installation, shipping, electricity and any reward are excluded from this service-only comparison.

Calculate your Starlink budget

Estimated total: US$660

All amounts use the selected currency. Enter the total initial quote, rental and electricity rate yourself. No reward is assumed. Cash rewards are not deducted. A country change resets the credit and custom charges.

If an offer explicitly confirms one free service month, its service-only calculation would be 11 monthly payments over the first 12 months, or 23 over 24 months. That is an 8.33% reduction in the first year’s service charges, not an 8.33% reduction in the complete installation and operating cost. Do not apply that example to a different cash or credit promotion. The calculator uses only a service credit that you enter yourself.

Electricity: the running cost that is easy to overlook

Power consumption matters because a home connection may run around the clock. The calculation is straightforward: average watts divided by 1,000, multiplied by operating hours and the price per kilowatt-hour. Use a realistic average for the actual kit and conditions. A power supply’s maximum rating is not a measurement of constant consumption.

For example, an average 20-watt load running 24 hours a day uses 175.2 kWh over 365 days. At 0.35 currency units per kWh, that is 61.32 per year. At eight hours per day, the same assumptions produce 58.4 kWh and 20.44 per year. These are illustrative calculations, not measured annual totals or a local electricity tariff. Enter your own unit rate in the calculator.

In our initial Mini X sample, the app reported roughly 18 watts during the first nine minutes. That short observation is useful context but should not be treated as a year-round average. Weather, operating mode, the separate router and additional networking equipment can change the total at the socket.

Business and Priority: compare a different service specification

A business connection should be selected against the required service features, data priority, connectivity resilience and network integration. Do not assume a consumer referral promotion or the cheapest Residential price automatically applies to a business order. Check the local Starlink Business offer and its terms separately.

For a backup line, decide which services need to remain usable when the main connection fails and how the router switches between them. Equipment, external mounting, power backup and technical setup may matter more than the headline monthly rate. The useful quote includes the whole working system.

Eight practical ways to spend less

  1. Choose the service you need: use a fixed-address plan when portability is unnecessary.
  2. Compare the lower tier first: paying for more bandwidth does not solve every Wi-Fi problem.
  3. Check the exact kit contents: avoid duplicating routers, cables or adapters.
  4. Compare buying and rental over your expected use: include recurring rental and return obligations.
  5. Count the current referral benefit accurately: use the confirmed reward, not an assumed month.
  6. Budget for inactive periods: include Standby charges where applicable.
  7. Plan the installation before ordering accessories: the correct cable route can prevent a second purchase.
  8. Use your actual electricity rate: compare continuous operation with the schedule you really need.

The cost traps that distort comparisons

Watch for country prices copied into the wrong currency, kit prices presented as complete first-year costs, and a “free” hardware offer that actually involves rental. Other common mistakes are subtracting a reward before eligibility is confirmed, treating a later cash payment as a zero first invoice, ignoring data allowances and assuming that a 30-day trial removes every return condition.

The last trap is treating the September test order as a permanent global offer. It is useful evidence of what our kit contained and what we paid at the time. Your current service address, selected tariff and order summary are what determine today’s purchase.

Frequently asked questions about Starlink prices and discounts

What is the cheapest Starlink plan?

Among the checked English-speaking markets, the advertised Residential starting prices are US$55, £40, CA$75 and A$75 per month. The applicable market and address matter; additional costs are separate.

Can I get one month of Starlink free?

Only count a free month when it is explicitly part of your confirmed eligible offer. The current referral pages checked here advertise cash or service credit varying by region, rather than a universal free-month entitlement.

Is a referral code the same as a checkout coupon?

No. The referral link identifies the recommendation. The actual reward and the point at which it is issued follow the current local programme conditions.

Why is there no discount on my first invoice?

A qualifying reward may be issued later, rather than deducted from the first payment. Check the benefit stated in your order and the billing or referrals record in your Starlink account.

Are the kit and shipping included in the monthly price?

Do not assume so. Read the order summary for hardware, rental, shipping and any other charges, then add them to the service cost.

Is rental cheaper than buying?

That depends on the local quote and how long you keep the equipment. Compare the same time period and include rental charges and any return requirements.

Can I use a foreign country’s cheaper plan?

The relevant offer is tied to the service country, address and permitted usage. A currency conversion or a different URL does not establish eligibility for another market’s plan.

Can I pause without paying anything?

Do not assume that. The checked Roam pages describe Standby Mode with a small recurring fee; the conditions depend on the account and market.

Does the calculator include an automatic referral discount?

No. Confirmed service credit starts at zero and is optional. Cash rewards are not automatically deducted from recurring charges.

How much electricity does Starlink cost?

Multiply average power in kilowatts by operating hours and your electricity unit rate. The result depends on the kit and usage, not the article’s language.
